Citizenship at birth through a Polish parent

A person born to a Polish citizen parent is a Polish citizen at birth. Birth in Poland to two foreign parents does not generally create citizenship by soil alone.

Recognition as a Polish citizen after permanent residence

A foreign national may be recognised as a Polish citizen after continuous legal residence of at least three years on permanent residence, EU long-term residence or permanent-residence right, with a stable income, a legal title to dwelling, and Polish language at B1. Shorter periods apply for spouses of Polish citizens, refugees, Polish origin / Karta Polaka holders and other statutory categories.
