A spouse or civil partner of an Irish citizen may naturalize with three years of reckonable residence on the island of Ireland and three years of marriage or civil partnership, including twelve months continuous residence before applying.

The Minister may waive naturalization conditions, including residence, for a person of "Irish associations" โ€” related by blood, affinity or adoption to an Irish citizen โ€” the route relevant to great-grandparent and remoter ancestry outside the Foreign Births Register entitlement.
