A child of a Chinese national parent is Chinese under the Nationality Law, subject to rules for births abroad where the parent has settled abroad and acquired foreign nationality.
Foreign nationals or stateless persons may apply if they are near relatives of Chinese nationals, have settled in China, or have other legitimate reasons, and are willing to abide by the Constitution and laws. Approved naturalizers must not retain foreign nationality. Grant is discretionary and uncommon.
