Belize previously operated the Belize Economic Citizenship Investment Programme (BECIP). It was ended in 2001 under constitutional and nationality amendments. The Economic Citizenship (Abolition of Rights) Act 2023 abolishes further nationality claims based on descent or marriage traced to a person who obtained nationality by economic citizenship.
