Citizenship at birth through a Belarusian parent

Birth to a Belarusian parent creates nationality. Birth in Belarus alone to foreign parents is not unrestricted jus soli; territorial rules cover children who would otherwise be stateless.

Naturalization after about seven years residence

Ordinary naturalization generally requires about seven years of residence plus knowledge of a state language and a lawful source of income; spouses of citizens and persons of Belarusian descent qualify on a sharply reduced (about one-year) term. Grant is discretionary (presidential).
